Fees for Access, Training and Staff Assistance
Note: New Fees commence October 1, 2011
- FEI Tecnai Sphera
- $26.00 per hour, one hour minimum
- A maximum of eight hours will be charged for each 24 hour period.
- $13.00 per hour from the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. and all day on weekends
- FEI Tecnai Polara
- $60.00 per hour, one hour minimum
- A maximum of eight hours will be charged for each 24 hour period.
- $30.00 per hour from the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. and all day on weekends
- Staff Assistance and Training
- $60.00 per hour, one hour minimum
- Training costs will include the hourly charges of the instrument plus the charge for staff assistance.
- Users not affiliated with UCSD must pay an additional 45% overhead.
- Charges will commence at the time reserved on the Scheduler. The starting time and ending times cannot be changed
after the session starts. The ending time of a session may possibly be changed by contacting the Facility Manager.
- Training for the Sphera generally lasts between 20 and 30 hours depending on the ability of the student.
Training time for the Polara usually requires another 10 hours. The length of the training period is designed so that the
student can develop a moderate level of expertise, independently run the instruments and handle them without causing any
costly damage. It is required that all training be given by the Facility Manager.
- The Facility Manager determines if the student has the necessary skills to use the instruments
without supervision or to operate them during non-peak hours.
